Physiotherapy (from the Greek φυσις physis, 'nature', and θεραπεία therapéia, 'treatment'), also known as physical therapy,1 is a discipline of health science that offers non-pharmacological therapeutic and rehabilitation treatment to diagnose , prevent and treat symptoms of multiple ailments, both acute and chronic, through physical agents such as electricity, ultrasound, laser, heat, cold, water, manual techniques such as stretching, traction, massage.

The physiotherapist is a health professional with university training and therapeutic studies. In Spain, its powers are included in the Health Professions Regulation Law. Bachelor's Degree in Physiotherapy (four years).

According to the World Confederation for Physiotherapy, physiotherapy aims to facilitate the development, maintenance and recovery of maximum functionality and mobility of the individual or group of people throughout their lives.

It is characterized by seeking the proper development of the functions produced by the body systems, where its good or bad functioning affects the kinetics or human body movement. It intervenes, through the use of scientifically proven techniques, when the human being has lost or is at risk of losing, or altering temporarily or permanently, the adequate movement, and with it the physical functions, without forgetting the fundamental role that Physiotherapy in the field of prevention for the optimal general state of health.
